Prevent Burnout By Prioritizing Rest

At Accompany suite, we are on mission to restore the workplace and relationships and you can see at the very beginning of "restore" is the word rest.

Work doesn’t exist without rest. Why have we taken rest out of the picture? Without adequate rest, our ability to work effectively diminishes. It's not about simply pushing through; it's about honoring the rhythm of work and rest.

So, ask yourself:

Do you prioritize rest as you should?

Sleep alone is not enough! Our brains need a break! Many people spend their days overstimulated by jumping around with tons of different tasks, involved in countless activities, running from here to there, overbooking their day… and then crashing at night.

A vacation isn’t going to cut it. Ever hear, “I need a vacation from my vacation?” Vacation does not equal rest.

Rest should take place daily. It doesn’t have to be long; it does need to be frequent. Rest is an intentional, conscious, active, involved, and engaged activity. Rest is more than just taking a break—it's about truly recharging your mind, body, and spirit. How do you find your balance and ensure you're giving yourself the rest you need to thrive?

Listen for things like:

  • “I can’t be creative”

  • “We are exhausted”

  • “I need a glass of wine to decompress”

  • “Why can’t I figure this out?”

  • “I just want to go home and binge-watch TV”

Look for things like:

  • Miscommunication

  • Increased heartrate

  • Unusual behavior

  • Trouble focusing

  • Trouble sleeping

  • Indifference

  • Weight gain/loss

Examples of rest:

SPIRITUAL

MENTAL/ EMOTIONAL

PHYSICAL

FINANCIAL

RELATION- SHIPS

CAREER

Prayer, Community Connection

Alone Time, Journaling, Time in Nature

Massage, Stretching, Walking, Avoiding Overstimulation

Understanding & Intentional Spending, Tithing/ Giving

More or less time

Hard Stops, Take “Brain Breaks”
